Proverbs 16:18 (Amplified)
Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.
 
What is pride?  Do we know what the signs of pride in a person are?  It is so easy to believe that we do not have pride which may indicate that there is pride residing within us.  Some of the signs are: disobedience to the Word, shifting the blame when caught in an act of disobedience, defensiveness, walking in suspicion, refusing to forgive, holding a grudge, and causing strife.  Anger is a statement of emotional pride.

Pride trusts in self; faith trusts in God.  Pride is the root of disobedience and it is the root of all sin.  As we can see it is an enemy; it is often motivated by trying to protect ourselves.  We have a protector who knows how to protect us and who will take vengeance on our behalf so we really do not need to protect ourselves or try to punish others.

 
Father, forgive me for being prideful and help me to yield to love so that I do not fulfill the sin of being proud.  Thank You, for Your Holy Spirit Whom I ask to remind me when I fall into pride; to correct me so that I do not fall into disobedience and sin.  I make these petitions in Jesus’ Name Who put aside pride and was humiliated and shamed that I might go free.  Amen
